There are spoilers for Mass Effect, just a warning!
Reapers from the Mass Effect series have telepathic abilities inherent to their species. One of them has been identified as Indoctrination. As explained by the wiki, it is a term given to an influencing effect they have on organic species that spend too much time in their presence. (Of course there are restrictions to avoid killing le fun. One being that Cabrakan is socially inept and mainly sits in the forest picking leaves or something.) Here's the basic rundown.
What it CAN do:
1. Can your character be affected by indoctrination? Are you okay with this?
2. If such is the case, are you comfortable with Cabrakan attempting to influence their thoughts if they ever meet directly?
3. If your character is susceptible, how long do you think they would be able to resist direct exposure(A few days, a few weeks, etc.)?
4. Does your character have any telepathic/mental resistance? What would it feel like, if it can be felt?
5. If your character were to be indoctrinated, what would their mental presence feel like? What is normal and what is abnormal?

Reapers from the Mass Effect series have telepathic abilities inherent to their species. One of them has been identified as Indoctrination. As explained by the wiki, it is a term given to an influencing effect they have on organic species that spend too much time in their presence. (Of course there are restrictions to avoid killing le fun. One being that Cabrakan is socially inept and mainly sits in the forest picking leaves or something.) Here's the basic rundown.
What it CAN do:
- A signal or energy field surrounding the Reaper appears to be the source of the effect. It is presumed to affect all organic thought patterns, as it had been part of their invasion tactics for several different species over countless extinction cycles.
- In a few days or weeks of constant, direct exposure, the field or signal will alter thought patterns enough to convert the exposed individual to their cause.
- Although the most immediate effects are minor and nonpermanent, it has been shown to be able to make their speech more convincing on a primal level.
- The rate at which the effect occurs can be controlled but never turned 'off'. It is present even if the Reaper itself is dead or disabled.
- It does not affect machines or other non-organic creatures such as spirits. If your character blurs the line between the two it's up to you whether you want them to be affected or not.
- It has no effect on anyone speaking indirectly to Reapers. For example, speaking through a communicator or interacting with it's avatar would not have any unnatural influence at all.
- It is not completely inescapable. The effect can be resisted by mentally-strong individuals for some time.
- The full effects are not immediate, they can only take place after prolonged exposure to the influencing field.
- The field itself will be short-range, meaning the individual would half to be in a radius of about 200 meters to be affected.
- It does not give the ability to read minds. A Reaper would be able to detect vague emotions and intentions only if the individual is already indoctrinated. It cant, for example, sift through the memories of the affected person, and it can't feel anything from someone who is unaffected.
- The only exception to this is if the individual is infected with reaper nano-tech, in which cases it uses the nano-tech to physical read brain patterns, etc.
- Artifacts and other pieces of Reaper technology can be embedded with this ability(In fact, they usually are). I will give warnings for these cases of course.
- The first four minutes of this video describes the effects pretty well, and gives examples in-game. There's major spoilers for ME3 though, near the ending.
